India Vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Match, Dec 17, 2017: Preview & Prediction

The 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and India is scheduled to be held on 17th December 2017, Sunday and after the results of the first ODI, it is highly likely to be the decider of the series. India was restricted to just 112 runs, all thanks to Lakmal’s bowling performance. Sri Lanka showed real strength and got back at India for the clean sweeps during their Sri Lanka visit recently. Some good cricketing shots were played by MS Dhoni, but India’s top order couldn’t score in double digits!

India would definitely come back stronger as they always do and are likely to win the 2nd ODI. If that happens, the 3rd ODI would become even more exciting. The match is being held at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The pitch is known for belters. Therefore, batsmen can play through the line easily. In recent times, spinners have also made their mark on this pitch. However, according to the recent matches, India seems to be preparing for their visit to South Africa, so the pitch might be good for seamers like Lakmal, Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah.

It looks like the Sri Lankan team has finally found the perfect combination for limited overs cricket, so it won’t be easy to beat them. But, the men in blue have shown nerves of steel against very challenging opponents and emerged victorious.

Players to Watch & Match Prediction

Here is our match prediction and players to watch:

Indian opening batsmen need to stay for at least twenty overs if they want to win the final match of the series. If Sri Lanka picks early wickets like they did in the first ODI, it is likely to be difficult for the middle order to make the required runs. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are in form, and they need to show that on the field as well. Indian bowling is strong and has troubled Sri Lankans, so they need to implement similar tactics, vary their lengths and pace and catch Sri Lankans off guard.

For Sri Lanka, everything seems to go their way in this ODI series so far. Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep gave them an excellent start in the first ODI and same is hoped from them in the final ODI as well. Upul Tharanga is an experienced batsman and his opening partnership with Danushka Gunathilaka is crucial for the match.

It can be clearly seen that the men in blue feel a little unguided without their leader Virat Kohli in this series, but all the team members are determined and confident with their skills, which is why it is still highly likely that India would clinch the series with a win in the second and third ODI.
